My second assignment in the second Illustrator class involved creating what the teacher called a “distorted text greeting card”. It was an odd assignment, but one that, I think, produces an interesting effect. Essentially, you create some text and apply multiple strokes to the edges of the letters. Then you simply choose brushes effects for the strokes, adjust the size and color and choose an order in which you can see the various layers of strokes. Eliminating the fill allows you to see through the letters, which results in the effect you see here.
It felt warm and sunny, so I thought I’d play that up and use the text as the sun in a sky with clouds. The clouds are there solely so that I’d have a reason to create the sunbeams.
