Due to not really learning a whole lot about Illustrator and vector illustration in general in my first class, I ended up taking a second class from the primary Digital Design teacher, Brian Martin. This class was far better than the original one because the lessons actually strove to teach me something. While I did learn more in this class than the first one, because I’d already done a fair amount of learning on the side as well as in previous basic instruction classes, I had a pretty good idea of what I was doing through most of it. Nevertheless, I did create more stuff that I’m proud to call my own.
For my final assignment I was to create a magazine cover illustration. Header text was required, but all other text and the barcode were optional. I opted not to come up with the additional text, because I wasn’t feeling terribly creative.
I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with this assignment, but I had an idea to do something with the figure of a woman. So I started looking through google images for inspiration. At some point I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do, so I started working in Illustrator. However, as I went along, the idea changed and eventually I created a retro fashion magazine cover featuring the following image.
